San Diego needs to “Get Ruff on Crime”
FOR SHERIFF
PLATFORM STATEMENT

We are usually asked to support our would-be leaders without really being offered a clear understanding of what they actually stand for, other than their sound bites and campaign slogans.

I will list below what I know are the three most important areas to focus efforts on in order to best stabilize our region, recover the sheriff’s department’s momentum and capability that has been lost from more than two decades of ineffective leadership and stewardship.

We need our safety and security addressed by our law enforcement providers. We must end our complacency and complicity by continuing to allow the unaddressed invasion of our region. When elected, I will immediately address these issues.

I will lead the effort to develop the old Camp Nimitz training facility into the regional model training center it was promised to be when it was sought. It has sat idle for 13-years now for lack of interest and vision. This will serve as the training hub from which we will reset the training standards for law enforcement within and without our region.

I will restructure portions of the sheriff’s department to streamline them and eliminate the operational and administrative glut weighing us down. This will reduce our costs. It will produce a leaner, more responsive, more efficient and effective sheriff’s department.

These points are just the base line from which we will work to develop a sheriff’s department that will wow you by demonstrating what is possible through effective leadership with vision.

Can this be done? Yes this absolutely can and will be done when I’m elected as your sheriff.

The sheriff of each county is, by law, the chief law enforcement officer - this means the sheriff should set the standards by which others measure their performance – we will set those standards.

We will begin the processes of addressing the multitude of illegal activities that have been left unaddressed throughout our county. Ignoring chronic, small, criminal behaviors breeds a general mindset of tolerance. And chronic tolerance left unaddressed leads to further decay of a society.

We will address these issues.

Maintaining focus on the little things, in the beginning, will begin to bring about a change in attitudes. And changing attitudes encourages innovation and involvement. And innovation and involvement brings about hope and sparks a “What might be possible” way of thinking. When elected I will create that spark.

You know it is getting late, but we still have some time to restate our stand, to restate our expectations, desires and demands; and insist that those representing us stay focused on getting our business done.

I promise to take us forward as your sheriff – give me your support and you’ll see a difference.

   Most sincerely

  Bruce Ruff
